'''Milena D'Angelo''' is an Italian physicist and, since 2019, associate professor of physics at the University of Bari Aldo Moro, where she leads the Quantum Optical Technologies (QuOT) Laboratory. Her research concerns quantum optics and quantum imaging, in particular the use of the correlations of light to form images with resolution or capabilities beyond those of conventional optics.

==Biography==
D'Angelo earned her Laurea in physics from the University of Bari, Italy, in 1999. During her undergraduate studies at Bari she was a student of the physicist [[Franco Selleri]], and her thesis addressed critiques of quantum teleportation. She subsequently moved to the United States, where she received a Master's degree in applied physics in 2002 and a PhD in applied physics in 2004, both from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), carrying out her doctoral research in the quantum optics group of Yanhua Shih.

Between 2004 and 2010 she held a series of postdoctoral and visiting research appointments, including positions at UMBC, at the University of Florence and the European Laboratory for Non-linear Spectroscopy (LENS) as a Marie Curie Fellow (2005–2006), and at the Dipartimento Interateneo di Fisica of the University of Bari. She became assistant professor of experimental physics at the University of Bari in 2010, and was promoted to associate professor of applied physics at the same institution in 2019.

At Bari she founded and directs the Quantum Optical Technologies (QuOT) Laboratory, a joint laboratory of the University of Bari and the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN) devoted to both fundamental studies and the development of technologies based on the quantum correlations of light.

==Work==
D'Angelo's research focuses on the exploitation of photon correlations for imaging and metrology. As a doctoral student she took part in early demonstrations of two-photon diffraction and quantum lithography, and later in the first demonstrations of two-photon (ghost) imaging using thermal and pseudo-thermal light rather than entangled photon pairs, showing that spatial correlations analogous to those of entangled states could be obtained with chaotic light sources.

Her more recent work centres on correlation plenoptic imaging, a technique that combines intensity-correlation measurements with plenoptic (light-field) imaging to reconstruct both the position and the direction of light, enabling three-dimensional and refocusable imaging. She coordinates the European QuantERA project "Qu3D – Ultra-fast, high-resolution quantum 3D imaging", aimed at developing quantum plenoptic cameras, a collaboration involving INFN, the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, the Palacký University Olomouc and the company Planetek. She is an author of more than fifty peer-reviewed publications and of several patents on plenoptic and correlation imaging.

==Honors==
D'Angelo has coordinated national and international research projects, including the QuantERA "Qu3D" project. She is a member of the Academic Senate of the University of Bari and of the physics PhD school committee at that institution.
