The patent, US 6,271,614 B1, "Pulsed plasma drive electromagnetic motor generator," was filed on November 15, 1999 (priority date November 20, 1998) and issued on August 7, 2001.

Arnold and associates subsequently promoted the device under the name PlasmaKing Corporation, and around 2004 solicited private investment for its commercialization.
