Abstract
The shape of the egg is proposed to be the consequence of synergistic actions from the transmission of forces derived from instinctual motions and energy matter conversions that act to obstruct the grounding and neutralization of energy emissions by limiting in size the physical domain of self witness. A philosophy and theory associating, atemporal in nature, form and emergence is evolved from logical considerations for the construction of a mathematical/geometrical model of the egg that is generated from a template construed from simple geometrical considerations. The acquisition of instinct as the setting/identity associated propagation of motion to avoid closed space is discussed in relation to cause and effect, the universal attribute of contingency and a special verses general case to describe the world. Analogy is made between the proposed natural transmission of the transparent/conceptual egg form, expressed physically at important nodes in the course of biological propagation to the philosophy of self- belonging of Bertrand Russell.
Overview
This is the companion piece to Marvin Kirsh's Uniqueness, Self Belonging and Intercourse in Nature, and it takes up the construction that paper only sketched: an explicit parametric model of the egg, proposed not as a description of poultry but as the shape of space itself. Kirsh's premise is that the egg has resisted mathematical description — historically it could only be approximated by overlaying circular arcs and polygons, as in the classical egg-curve constructions, or drawn as a plane section of the hyperbolic cone in the manner of Viktor Schauberger. All of these, he objects, render the egg as it looks to an observer standing outside it, and so are "frustrated to envision form that arises from within natural emergences."
His alternative derives the egg from a geometry of motion: a slow linear velocity from which light is projected simultaneously in two perpendicular planes, with the speed of light treated as a variable rather than a constant. The resulting three-dimensional surface, plotted over an enormous angular range, is claimed to resemble an ordinary egg. Around this construction Kirsh builds a philosophy in which time has no dimension, light does not travel, identity rather than coordinate location is the fundamental descriptor of physical things, and instinct is a form transmitted along with motion rather than encoded in genes.
The argument
Against the general case
The opening polemic charges modern science with straddling two incompatible roads: general laws applying to a general case on one side, and a special case fitted to tests and observation on the other, with "a non-existent null hypothesis upon which is all tested" at the root. Kirsh's target is the statistical idealization — the normal distribution, the null state, "the state in which temperature is evenly distributed" — which he holds to be a construct of theory-seeking observation rather than anything nature contains, since it presumes that at least two situations can be identical. His programme is to replace it with "a universal special case of form": a shape possessed by everything, which orders all cases and so needs no idealized average.
He also argues that explanations built on energy potentials distributed across boundaries — membrane potentials in cell biology, electrostatic interaction inside the atom — succeed as general pictures but "falter when temporality, beginnings, ends, and emergence by proximal inheritance is considered." Continuity from one system state to the next, and the continuity of the self, cannot be recovered from a potential across a divide.
Light, identity and the denial of travel
The most consequential section is a sustained attack on the idea that light carries information from the past. Kirsh argues that if identities A and B are both emerging and in relative motion, then light can pass "from identity A to identity B but not mathematical coordinate location A to B," because a coordinate location acquires meaning only by having value added to it, and that value is a history. He concludes that light received at B "cannot be inferred to have been emitted sometime in the past during the existence of A, but to be concurrent and reflective of the existent identity=A." The illustration is blunt: "If a flashlight shining at an object at a given distance is turned off, witness communication ceases at that instant; the light from the flashlight does not continue its journey to the illuminated object but instead does not exist at the instant energy emission stops."
To hold otherwise, he argues, would require the intervening universe to be coordinate-wise fixed and "philosophically absent of emergence — i.e. in a randomly distributed null state." The compensating gain he claims is that no medium is required: since energy emissions can "produce progeny at coordinate points intermediate between witnesses," space is filled with identities and communications, and "the postulate of an absolute vacuum, or an ether that fills space and is required to conduct light is unnecessary." The same atemporal, identity-based structure is then extended to the brain, which becomes "a place or space of identities that bear contiguous associations by proximal inheritance," describable neither by fixed nor by dynamic coordinates.
The physical egg
Against this backdrop Kirsh offers a concrete embryological proposal. The bird's egg is malleable until laid, and its final shape is the resultant of three concurrent influences: gravity pulling it down, muscular expulsion pushing it along, and fast biochemical and molecular rearrangements inside it whose vector direction is at times opposite to the gross motion. The blunt end arises where the fast internal energies "lean against" the slow external ones. Offspring, previously moving with the parent, "suffer a seeding motion imparted by instinct" at separation, which is why their parameters differ from the parent's.
The supporting observation is the classic raw-versus-boiled egg demonstration: a spun hard-boiled egg rises onto its end, a raw one does not. The conventional explanation is a friction-driven gyroscopic conversion of spin energy into potential energy. Kirsh proposes instead "an anti-lifting property to the fluidity of the yolk of the raw egg," reading the difference as residual evidence that the pre-laid egg acquired, during formation, potential forces acting against gravity — forces still witnessable "if both the yolk and shell are present." He cites in parallel Fulconis's single-molecule observation that chromatin contracts in response to an applied stretching force, as another case of internally originating change opposing an applied impulse.
Instinct without genes
Instinct is then redefined as a passenger of form rather than a content of DNA: "motion seeded, identity specific, continuous reordering work" transmitted from the reordering that occurs at birth. DNA itself is "an energetic piece of physical path, the product of the conversion of a path of energy to matter." The consequence Kirsh draws is anti-reductionist and stated flatly: behaviour is not universally divisible into orderable components, because components have no meaning apart from the entity behaving — "eggs cannot be discussed without chickens, it is likewise meaningless to order distinct genetic elements assigned function in the absence of identity/place." He extends the notion even to inanimate matter, describing "the simple instinct of a rock to fall in gravity, or to shatter with pressure," as the passenger of the rock's own path of emergence on an imperceptibly slow tempo.
Russell and the space-filling concept
The final section invokes Bertrand Russell three times. Russell's paradox — the set of all things not belonging to themselves — is offered as the model for the egg's dual status: "not physically universal, but conceptually universal as a form." The law of the excluded middle is illustrated by the ambiguity of "all round eggs are brown" when there are no round eggs. And the theory of definite descriptions supplies the claim that some symbols are incomplete and take meaning only in context. From these Kirsh argues that division of an emergence is finite or infinite according to context, that a universal instinct to avoid the closed traps conceptual life "in a narrow between a countable finite and uncountable infinite," and — his sharpest conclusion — that since identity has no physical dimension, "time cannot be given the quality of dimension." Dimension is instead "value applied to dimensionless form."
The construction
Figure 1 gives an oval template generated by linear motion v with light c projected simultaneously into the x–y and x–z planes. Figure 2 gives the plot, with E/m = ΔVslow2/2 + ΔClight2, R(a) sin θ = ΔV, R(a) cos θ = ΔC, and

Assessment
The paper is at its best where it stays close to the egg. The proposal that the avian egg's asymmetry records the competition between slow external forces (gravity, peristalsis) and fast internal ones during oviposition is a real hypothesis about a real object, and one that could in principle be tested — by comparing shell asymmetry across species with different oviduct musculature, laying posture or transit time, or by imaging egg deformation during passage. Kirsh does not carry it that far, but the idea is not empty, and it sits alongside genuine work on how oviduct mechanics shapes eggs. The instinct that form itself, rather than a coded instruction, may carry heritable organization is likewise a recognisable and defensible strand of thought, with antecedents in structuralist and process biology. And the Russell material, though used loosely, is deployed with some care: the distinction between a form that is conceptually but not physically universal is a coherent one to want.
The difficulties are large and mostly the same as in the companion paper. The egg construction is a parametric plot, not a derivation. Choosing sin θ + 2cos θ for the generating line and 2cos φ for the surface produces an ovoid because those coefficients were chosen to produce an ovoid; nothing in the physics of light emission from a moving mass requires them. The parameter range π < θ, φ < π + 1017 is stated without explanation of what 1017 half-turns correspond to physically, and the model yields no measurable quantity — no predicted axis ratio for any species, no dependence on any parameter one could go and measure. Making c variable, as in the companion paper, collides with the tightest constancy limits in physics without any estimate of the size of the variation being proposed.
The denial that light travels is the paper's most serious overreach, and it conflicts with direct measurement rather than with interpretation. Light's finite transit time is not an inference from theory but something routinely observed: Rømer measured it from the timing of Jupiter's moons in 1676; the round-trip delay to spacecraft and to the lunar retroreflectors is used operationally every day; radar ranging in the solar system works only because the delay is real and predictable; and the light curve of SN 1987A arrived years before its light echoes did. The flashlight thought-experiment gets the wrong answer for exactly this reason — switching off a laser aimed at the Moon does not extinguish the pulse already in flight, as lunar laser ranging demonstrates by receiving photons 2.5 seconds after emission. The claim that this removes the need for an aether is therefore solving a problem that the finite-speed picture does not have.
Two smaller points. The raw-versus-boiled spinning egg is now well understood — Moffatt and Shimomura's 2002 analysis in Nature derives the rise of the boiled egg from gyroscopic friction at the contact point, and the raw egg fails to rise because the fluid interior does not rotate rigidly with the shell and so dissipates the spin. Kirsh's alternative, attributing the difference to residual forces acquired during laying, would predict that the effect depends on the egg's history, which the standard account says it does not: a boiled egg spins up regardless of where its shell came from, and the behaviour is reproduced by inert spheroids with no biological history at all. And the argument that time cannot have dimension because identity has none is a non sequitur even on the paper's own terms, since Kirsh elsewhere requires processes to have tempos, rates and durations, all of which presuppose exactly the dimension being denied.
As with the companion paper, the prose is a substantial barrier. Sentences accumulate clauses until their subject is lost, and central terms — "witness," "path," "identity," "closed space," "familiarity" — shift meaning between passages without notice. A sympathetic reader can extract the governing intuitions: that form is prior to number, that the observer is inside what he describes, that continuity of identity is not reducible to a sequence of coordinates. What cannot be extracted is a chain of inference from those intuitions to the egg equation, or from the egg equation to anything measurable.
